Not long ago, I heard a retired officer ask a powerful question: “What makes a good cop a great cop?” His answer was simple—yet profound: compassion. That might sound surprising in a profession where many are taught early on to leave compassion at the door.

One Saturday night, we were overwhelmed—call to call, every officer busy. A disturbance came in at a nightclub, and I was the only unit free. I took the call, and a narcotics detective, Officer Hodges, offered to back me up. I’ve always suspected narcotics detectives appear only when absolutely needed—and apparently, t

I was the Post Commander at the State Patrol Office in Helena, Georgia. My daily commute was 75 miles, one way. It wasn’t too bad though as it gave me opportunities to make calls and decompress before I made it home. There were shifts that I literally made calls all the way to the office, and all the way home after my

As we celebrate the joy and victory of Easter, we are reminded that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is not only an event to be remembered—but a life to be lived. In a profession where we stand daily in harm’s way, Easter speaks powerfully to our calling: because Christ lives, we do not stand exposed, unprotected, or a

In December 2025, a George Barna research study—recently summarized by Moody Radio—examined the spiritual beliefs and practices of adults across the United States. The findings are sobering, and for those of us who care deeply about the Gospel and the men and women who serve in law enforcement, they demand more than qu

As we step into this new year, I want to begin by expressing my deepest gratitude for the extraordinary way you responded to our end-of-year giving drive. Your generosity resulted in the largest single-month total of contributions in FCPO-USA's history. We are humbled and profoundly grateful for your faithful partnersh

Off to a great start! The Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers is excited to announce the official launch of FCPO Armor of DuPage Chapter 161 in Illinois. Chapter 161 marked this exciting new beginning with a law enforcement appreciation breakfast on Saturday, January 17, at the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream, Illinois. Approximately 65 active, retired, and recruit officers—along with their families—gathered for a meaningful morning of fellowship, encouragement, and faith. Those in attendance were blessed with inspiring Gospel music and a powerful message from Ray McElroy , former Chicago Bears cornerback (2000 season) and longtime NFL chaplain, including his service as a former Bears team chaplain. His words resonated deeply with those who serve, reminding officers of the importance of faith, purpose, and perseverance both on and off the job. The event also featured special contributions from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard , The Bagpipes and Drums of the Emerald Society , Chicago Police Department Officer Luke Elmore , and a stirring performance of the National Anthem by Evie Kasper . Additional musical blessings were provided by Anthony Frank Cassano on trumpet and George Nicholson , Gospel worship singer, songwriter, and storyteller. FCPO Armor of DuPage Chapter 161 now meets on the first Friday of each month at 8:15 a.m. at Gospelife Church (1N050 Gary Ave., Carol Stream, IL). All active, retired, and recruit law enforcement officers are warmly invited to attend. For more information about FCPO Armor of DuPage Chapter 161, please contact Dennis Parrish at [email protected] . We thank God for this strong beginning and look forward to how He will use Chapter 161 to encourage, equip, and support peace officers throughout DuPage County.
