For a number of years, the annual Peace Officers Memorial Golf Classic was FCPO-USA's primary fundraising event. Many friends of the ministry helped make these tournaments successful through sponsorships and participation in the event itself. Additionally, a number of FCPO chapters across the nation also supported our efforts through hole sponsorships.
Sgt. John Allen Baker, Jr.
The tournament began in 2001, under the auspices of FCPO Chattanooga/Hamilton County Chapter 121, to help with the medical expenses of Chattanooga Police Sgt. John Allen Baker, Jr.(pictured with his family), who was battling pancreatic cancer. Raised on the mission field in Australia, John had a profound effect on all who knew him. Subsequent tournaments were held as a memorial to Sgt. Baker, who passed away later that year.
Sgt. Tim Chapin
Our 2013 tournament honored the memory of Chattanooga Police Sgt. Tim Chapin, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty while responding to an armed robbery call on April 2, 2011, the day after he played in our 2011 tournament.
Tim was a member of FCPO, and had participated in this tournament previously honoring Sgt. John Baker since 2001. Tim honored John by his involvement with this event, so we felt it was appropriate to honor him for his heroic actions that resulted in his ultimate sacrifice.
The 2014 and 2015 tournaments honored the memory of all those in the Chattanooga/Hamilton County area who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. These courageous men and women placed themselves in harm's way to protect the citizens they gallantly served, and we honored their heroic memory and sacrifice.
The last Peace Officers Memorial Golf Classic was held in 2015. The event was discontinued in 2016.
