Are Campus Cops Real Cops?

The ministry of the Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers welcomes peace officers from all segments of the Criminal Justice System. But some may wonder if campus cops are real cops. I think we saw the answer to that on Monday, November 28, 2016, when a terrorist drove his car into a group of pedestrians at Ohio State University, then got out and began stabbing people. This vicious attack was stopped by a cop, a campus cop. Ohio State University Officer Alan Horujko was in the area of the attack and was able to bring it to a swift end.

Many campus police officers are trained at the same academies alongside of their municipal counterparts. These officers are often called off campus to respond to municipal crime incidents when requested by area police agencies.

Colleges and Universities often use a mixture of sworn police, non- sworn security, and contract security. All of these professionals have one goal in mind: to keep their campus communities safe.

So, as we invite area officers to take part in the ministry of the FCPO, let us remember that campus cops are real cops and are in need of prayer and fellowship along with their town and city counterparts.
